Answering the Call of the Ocean by Mohammad Daulatana

Answering the call

Life has a way of testing us in the most unexpected ways. It hands us joy and sorrow, triumph and struggle—sometimes all at once. Some moments we embrace, others we endure, and a few we face simply because we must.

Eventually, life stops being about collecting trophies or ticking off bucket-list dreams. It becomes something deeper: a quiet, relentless drive to push boundaries, to search for meaning in the unknown, to chase what still feels impossible.

At one point, I believed I had reached my physical limits after completing Ironman races. But even those finish lines didn’t quiet the hunger—the desire to go further, to do more, to discover something greater.

Answering the call

Being a single parent, a “Mr. Mom,” hasn’t been easy. Yet the joy in those shared moments with my daughters has made every challenge worth it. Life moves on, and while love, family, and work keep me grounded, the yearning to do something extraordinary remains.

In 2027, that call will take me to the Pacific Ocean for the World’s Toughest Row, alongside Ryan, Brian, and John—friends bonded by purpose and camaraderie. This journey isn’t about glory or recognition. It’s about courage, resilience, and hope. I row not just for myself, but for those who can’t. I row to bring hope and possibility to lives where they’re often out of reach.

Crossing an ocean demands more than strength. It takes heart, discipline, and unwavering preparation. Once we push off, there’s no turning back. This isn’t just a physical challenge—it’s a message. Every stroke will say: we are stronger than the storms we face. If one person sees this journey and believes they can conquer their own ocean—then every wave will have been worth it
